Irandidban’s Correspondent..: Anne Land, the attorney of 13 MKO members who claim to be Iranian-Danish and are now under arrest in Iraq, has said: “the Danish government hasn't lifted a finger to get these people out of trouble.” The attorney, Anne Land, has accused Foreign Ministry officials of refusing to help resolve the matter legally, and of failing to respond to her requests for a meeting. Foreign Ministry officials have rejected her claims. Foreign Ministry spokesmen said they never received any such request from Anne Land, who was scheduled to depart for Baghdad last week in an attempt to help the Iranian exiles win acquittal on US charges of terrorism. In late January, the Danish Government formally received a list from the United States containing the names of 13 Iranian exiles with 'ties' to Denmark. The 13 are among some 4000 Iranian exiles from the opposition movement People's Muhajedin (MKO), currently being help at the Camp Ashraf military base northeast of Baghdad, on charges of terrorism. Integration Minister Bertel Haarder and Justice Minister Lene Espersen have since taken steps to investigate the legal status of the prisoners. This attorney wants to involve the Danish government in a political issue and asks them to take a position against the policies of the US and she’s not trying to simply resolve their immigration issue. The Mojahedin have formed a support group, under the name of Danish families of these 13 people, and have asked Anne Land to represent them. The families are hoping to bring all 13 detainees to this country, and that those who do not currently hold Danish citizenship will be given residence permits. Anne Land told Ritzau news bureau that just one of the 13 prisoners is a Danish citizen, while four hold permanent residence permits. She didn’t account for the remaining eight people. As usual, the MKO will blackmail the Danish government into accepting these 8 people as legal citizens, while they might have been illegal immigrants before. Blackmail by the MKO’s attorney is to the same ends. Comment by Iran-Interlink Despite the MKO's propaganda campaign which started against Canada in January and has now targeted Denmark and will continue with all the countries of Europe, there is clear evidence that the MKO leader and his backers are refusing to dismantle the military infrastructure of the terrorist Ashraf base in Iraq, and are actively denying the right of the members to be helped as individuals by the ICRC. It is significant that the Danish lawyer and her film crew have been granted an open hand to make propaganda in Ashraf camp, while at the same time the blood relatives of members of this organization are denied any access to their loved ones. |
