Increased Threat from Rajavi's Cult

2 July 2003

The arrest of Maryam Rajavi in the NCRI headquarters in Auvers sur Oise France accompanied by the discovery of many controversial documents and followed by the self-immolations of several so-called Mojahedin sympathisers along with the propagandist hunger strikes and the hiring of over 25 lawyers in France, have signalled that Rajavi’s cult has entered into a new phase.

With Maryam Rajavi’s release on bail today in Paris, this phase will move to a new level.

One of the serious concerns in this respect is the intent of this cult to physically eliminate its opponents in Europe as was revealed by the media. We should bear in mind that although the Mojahedin are trying to limit the scope of this news to cover only the 30 individuals who recently participated in a meeting in Paris, the true number of those labelled by this cult as working with the regime of Iran is well over hundreds and includes many prominent members of Iran’s opposition.

Mr Massoud Rajavi, who is currently in hiding, made an announcement on the 30 June, assuming the name of the Mojahedin organization, in which he attempts to divert the accusations against him toward the Iranian regime and to ignore all the revealed and still unexposed documents. He also dismisses those who give evidence against him as working for the Iranian regime. Mr Rajavi apparently does not recognise the rule of law and is attempting to politicise his predicament.

However, if the number of people so accused by the Mojahedin is divided by the period covered by this labelling, we would have to accept that the Intelligence Ministry of Iran has been continuously over a number of years recruiting one opponent or critic of this cult every twelve days. The evidence for this statistic is available and clearly shows the current tactics of Rajavi’s system.

Mr Rajavi has pointed to Mr Mohammad Sobhani as such a person. In 2002, Rajavi himself said in three announcements that Mr Sobhani had run away from their camp in Iraq, that he was captured by Saddam Hussein’s Intelligence Service which imprisoned him in Abu Ghraib political prison and several years later handed him over to the Iranian regime. Of course, Mr Rajavi did not explain why any of this happened. Reliable reports show that during the rule of Mr Rajavi’s host (Saddam Hussein) at least fifty other individuals suffered the same fate. This issue is currently under investigation by several international bodies and agencies. Despite all these announcements Mr Rajavi refused to co-operate in order to shed light on the real situation of these individuals. The latest of his similar crimes was the arrest of two of his followers in Syria and their transfer to Iran. Mr Rajavi as usual cried foul but refused to say why he had sent them to Syria and why he prevented the story from emerging for two months (up to the point at which he was certain they had been transferred to Iran).

Mr Rajavi does not mention in his announcement the self-immolations in Europe, but there is clear evidence that at least two of these so-called ‘sympathisers’ have been trained for terrorist operations in Iraq by Saddam Hussein’s Republican Guard and have been sent to Europe along with a few hundred other such ‘Fedayeen’ at the same time as Maryam Rajavi’s move to Paris. These new arrivals can be divided in to three groups:

  1. Individuals with propaganda skills who can be of use in lobbying political circles or whitewashing Rajavi in the media. These people are limited in number and are mainly operating from London, Paris and New York under the names of representatives or spokesperson, etc.

  2. Individuals chosen from the body of the Mojahedin’s armed section in Iraq who are considered as members of Rajavi’s Fedayeen. These people have undergone intensive training by Saddam’s Republican Guards and are ready for suicide operations (for example self-immolations). It would appear that these people were specifically chosen to eliminate the cult’s opposition in Europe and America.

  3. Individuals expert in selecting and training people for suicide operations. Some of these people have passed appropriate training in Saddam’s system and have years of experience in this field. Some are responsible for training and motivating the suicide bombers in Iran. In particular these people are being used for contacting Iranians and/or ex-supporters. At this time, Rajavi’s cult desperately wants to find and use those Iranians who have a background in Europe or America so that they can be introduced to the media or politicians as sympathisers rather than as hard-core members.

In his announcement Mr Rajavi jokes and says that the Mojahedin has a collective leadership. Obviously the frequent change of lackeys or dollies cannot be taken as evidence of change of leadership of a cult. Mr Rajavi categorically denies that the Mojahedin is a cult. Again, recently revealed audio tapes of a telephone conference call between Rajavi and his friends give evidence of the kinds of hysteria and submission of heart soul and mind which are the signature of cult culture (a transcript of the tape is on our website (Elucidation concerning the cult status of the Mojahedin; listen to the tape on www.iraneayandeh.org).

Mr Rajavi in all innocence points out that the Al Tash camp in Iraq belonged to Saddam Hussein and that he only handed Mojahedin dissidents over to the Iraqi government. It was Saddam’s agents who took them to this camp. That time then, was a philanthropic period for Rajavi and Saddam. Our current investigations concern the murders and torture in Ashraf camp (the main camp of Rajavi’s cult in Iraq) and Abu Ghraib political prison. (The joint prison of Saddam and Rajavi.)

Mr Rajavi claims that ‘up to now’ no non-military person has been targeted in their attacks. However documents of attacks by this cult against the offices of Peywand Association, the families of political activists in Europe, old women, and writers and journalists …. and also film of the hooligans and Fedayeen of the cult attacking the employees of Iranian embassies and Iranian Airline officials with lethal weapons (non firearms) are readily available.

No comment need be made on Rajavi's claims toward the families and children of Mojahedin members except to reiterate that in over two years of activity by Iran-Interlink we now have a large body of evidence on this matter. In addition it must be made clear that on the subject of Rajavi's co-operation with Saddam in the massacre of Kurds and Shiites in Iraq the available evidence cannot be exposed as there is a legal case pending.

Mr Rajavi with his usual effrontery states that his military camps in Iraq have always been open for investigation by independent bodies. Iran-Interlink has piles of evidence to show the exact opposite of that. Not only has Rajavi refused to accept the mediation of international human rights organisations to facilitate the visits of families, but he asked Saddam to refuse visas for the families of the prisoners in Mojahedin camps in Iraq. His effrontery has reached the point whereby he claims that after the downfall of Saddam, his breadwinner for the past twenty years in Iraq, the people of Iraq have demonstrated in support of his cult. However it is clear that the over ten million dollars cash found in their bases in Paris could not be mistaken for money donated to this cult by the public of Iraq. These hundred dollar bills have traceable serial numbers.

Finally, although Mr Rajavi has rejected the findings of the French police that the Mojahedin cult were planning to destroy their opponents in Europe and has called it a joke, we should emphasise the exposure of the move of operational teams from Iraq to Europe under the name of sympathisers, passers-by, refugees, tourists, etc. We will hold Mr and Mrs Rajavi accountable for any physical or financial damage to any individual who has left this cult (under the name of the Mojahedin, NCRI or other pseudonym) at any time and for any reason, and who has revealed information about them.

We should inform those responsible for public safety that according to these recent revelations, the order to escalate the level of violence of the operations in Europe (including suicide operations) has already reached parts of the terrorist network of this cult.
