MKO's politically motivated accusation means Naghdi killer still not brought to justice

Radio Farda, November 25, 2006

An Iranian diplomat accused of the 1993 slaying of an Iranian dissident who died in a hail of gunfire as he was being driven along a Rome street was acquitted Friday of the murder, his lawyer said.

Prosecutors had sought to prove that Amir Mansur Assl Bozorgian, who was tried in absentia, was an Iranian killer sent by his country's leadership to murder dissident Mohammed Hussein Naghdi. However, the court found that Bozorgian had not committed the crime, lawyer Stefano Valenza said.

He [Naghdi] acted as the representative in Italy for the National Council of Resistance of Iran, which is part of the Mujahedeen Khalq, or People's Mujahedeen, the leading Iranian opposition group.

Paulo Sodano, a lawyer who represents NCRI, said to Radio Farda that although he couldn't comment on the issue until he receives the reasons why Bozorgian was acquitted, he thought that the Judges cleared him since they found no evidence to prove the comments of the witness.
