Following its failure in
the so-called “largest ever gathering” in front of the UN headquarters in
New York on September 14 with an overall mob of 2000 protesters, MKO has
started a new propaganda move calling for another rally on 7th November 2005
to be held in front of the European Union headquarters in Brussels. In a TV program, Mehdi Abrishamchi announced that “It is the best created opportunity to take advantage of the international pressures. We must do our best to avail ourselves of the opportunity.” He beseeched all the dissidents residing in Europe to gather on the day for two purposes: calling for removal of the terrorist tag against MKO and, referral of Iran’s nuclear file to the Security Council. The organization seems to be facing a new challenge after it failed in its efforts calling for change in Iraq’s draft constitution which affects the status of MKO members’ stay in Iraq. There remains no choice for the MKO but to use an outside lever to influence Iraqi legal bodies after their formation. The first step is to get itself free of the notorious terrorist tag and the due rally is an effort to convince the European Union and the US to reconsider its blacklisting as a terrorist group. |
