After it was announced by Irandidban that Massoud
Rajavi has been detained in Camp Mercury in Iraq, parts of the supplementary
reports indicate that Massoud Rajavi is in custody along with some leaders
of other dangerous terrorist organizations. According to these reports, Camp Mercury (former MKO Base, Badi’zadegan) is a place for keeping PUCs (Persons Under Control). These PUCs are the ones considered to have valuable intelligence for coalition forces. Persons Under Control would be kept and stringently investigated in Camp Mercury before being transferred to Abu Ghraib prison. PUCs include the leaders of all terrorist and insurgent groups. Reports indicate that investigators in this camp use their own special techniques to force the detainees to confess and give intelligence. According to Human Rights Watch report, during the investigations in this camp, human rights have been severely violated. These events took place in 2003 and 2004, before and after the investigations into events in Abu Ghraib prison. In some cases, ranking soldiers have claimed that intelligence officers have asked them to beat the detainees everyday. Reports confirm that the name of the MKO’s former base, Badi’zadegan, now occupied by US forces, has been changed to “Camp Mercury” and that it has been divided to three sections: one for training Iraqi soldiers, another for the settlement of US soldiers and another section for detaining PUCs. The camp is being protected under high security levels. |
